ERRATA

1. The date '1876' on Page 28 of Bulletin No. 1 should read '1976'.

2. The phrase 'This is called the cortex or core' on the diagram on Page 21 of Bulletin No. 1 is slightly misleading. The following explanation should clarify the situation.

CORE is the piece of stone (flint mostly) from which flakes and blades have been removed. Sometimes a core was discarded but many times a core was further shaped and altered to serve as an implement such as a handaxe.

CORTEX is the name given to the surface of flint and is normally a whitish crust. This can be changed by chemicals in the soil and alter the color of the surface gradually. The term given to this is patination.
