The Abu Dhabi chapter of the Emirates Natural History Group published an issue of its Bulletin three times each year for 18 years.
The Chairman of the Abu Dhabi chapter at the time, John Stewart-Smith, discussed the aims and objectives of the Bulletins in his introduction which appeared on the first page of the first bulletin in March 1977.
The articles are organized in various categories:
Individual articles are often listed in two or more categories. The History of the Buraimi Oasis, for example, is among articles listed in the Islamic and Recent History category, the Geology category, and the Geography category.
I have also prepared a list of the articles, by author. While this page has been constructed with all the links in place, not all of the articles have been uploaded to the site.
You may choose to search through the Bulletins by viewing the published Table of Contents for each issue. The Bulletins are listed by number and date; by clicking on the highlighted date text, you will see the corresponding Table of Contents. (These documents are still being prepared and the page is still under construction. However, some links are in place.
The articles are reproduced here for the benefit of ENHG members and the general public. Information contained in the articles is the property of the Emirates Natural History Group. When citing any article, credit should be given to the authors, as noted on each article. The citation should also include the Bulletin date and issue.
Other articles and information available includes the following:
The Al Ain chapter published a copy of its constitution. in an early issue of the Bulletin.
An undated version of the chapter's constitution can be found here. This version was probably adopted during the 1970's when the Al Ain chapter held meetings at the Al Ain Zoo.
The Al Ain chapter's current version of its constitution has a few modifications. The duties of the individual committee members are discussed in a supplement to the Constitution. One of the projects of the Committee for the 2002/2003 season is to bring the Constitution and bylaws in line with current operations and Committee composition.
The Al Ain chapter maintains a library of books, magazines and videotapes for its members. The library is open prior to each meeting (2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month, July and August excepted).
Each chapter of the Emirates Natural History Group is managed by a committee of volunteers. The Al Ain chapter's committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month at the Al Ain Intercontinental Hotel to manage the day-to-day business of the group. All members are invited to join the monthly meetings.
Committee members are officially elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Group. The AGM is usually held in November of each year (fourth Tuesday of November each year). The annual photography competition is held in conjunction with the AGM.
The Al Ain chapter holds general meetings on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month (July, August and December excepted) at the Al Ain Intercontinental Hotel. Meetings begin at 7:30 pm with the presentation to begin at 8 pm.

Most of the photographs on the site are contributed by members of the Al Ain chapter of the Emirates Natural History Group. If you wish to reproduce and/or redistribute any of the images, we request that you credit the photographer and the source.
With such a large membership, with so many interests, the Committee of the Al Ain chapter of the ENHG has organized and supports several Special Interest Groups. These groups are intended to help individuals who share a particular interest (birding, archaeology, reptiles etc.) to organize field trips and other activities. Each SIG has a volunteer to coordinate the activities of each group; all members are encouraged to take the intiative and organize activities, however.
When the Bulletin was retired, Tribulus magazine was born. At some future date, perhaps, all of the articles from the Tribulus will be available online. At the moment, only a few are available. For the current list of Tribulus articles available at this site, check out this index.
The Twitchers' Guide is the weekly report produced by Simon Aspinall and Peter Hellyer, with reports from around the UAE and Oman. Click here if you are looking for back issues.

One of the events unique to this part of the world is the activity on the beach near Ras al Hadd in Oman where sea turtles have, for hundreds of years, emerged from the sea to deposit their eggs. Weeks later, hatchlings scurry across the beach to begin their life in the oceans. Debbie Handley has collected some information about Turtle Watching in Oman, including maps, information and a copy of the application form.
Geoff Sanderson, our Flora SIG coordinator, has compiled a list of plants here in Al Ain. This checklist will be of interest and value to those who share Geoff's enthusiasm for the trees, shrubs and plants around us. Click here to view the page as a web page.
Thanks for sharing, Geoff!
When you are out in the field you should carry a notebook and reference books. We also hope you carry along some recording forms.
You can download a MicroSoft Word version of a fauna reporting form or a flora reporting form.
The Emirates Natural History Group began in 1977 in Abu Dhabi. Its founder was the inspirational J.N.B. 'Bish' Brown. A short history of the organization, written by Peter Hellyer, is available here.
A brief discussion of the spelling, transliteration and presentation of the Bulletins in this archive is presented here.
Below are various links which may have appeared on the home page but are no longer current or topical. There may also be some links which just do not belong any other place on these pages.
